Origin of the music:

All of the tunes on this album contain both musical and extra-musical inspiration. I like to compose with something in mind other than a musical idea, and since I'm an easily impressionable person, I decided to pay tribute to many of the influences I have from playing, listening, reading, and basically from being in this world.
French Accent is inspired by the sophistication of the french language and my experience with Tancrede Krumm's band; Pra você by happiness and Wayne Shorter; Mates y Termos by the taste of mate (the Argentinean drink) and the music of Paul Termos (the great dutch saxophone player); Ornette by simplicity and Ornette Coleman (a redundant combination); Frases Sueltas by freedom and organization; Lila, by fear and my daughter (the fear of loosing her!); Ana María Cucu by the Italian children’s game; In Two Words by two words corresponding to two pitches (easy to guess which notes, hard to guess which words…) and Reggae; Steve y Wonder by an out-of-focus picture and Stevie Wonder; Coyoacan by the sound of the word, the magnetic beauty of Mexico, Cumbia, and my friendship with Tavo Nandayapa; Melodía by love and pollution.
Needless to say, none of this would have been accomplished without the invaluable contributions of Tristan Renfrow and Matt Adomeit. It feels like a gift every time I play with you guys!
We invited Guillermo Celano to play on four of the tunes. He clicked with Native Speaker's sound almost immediately and we liked it so much that it was hard not to make him a permanent new member of the band.
